JEK Productions was founded in 2018 by CEO Joseph Kent, a practicing corporate attorney who discovered his passion for storytelling and film production. While developing his first project, he met a fellow lawyer—an established screenwriter and Writers Guild of America member with multiple credits—at the same firm. United by a shared creative vision, the two began collaborating closely, channeling their real-world legal expertise and cultural insight into bold, socially driven narratives that explore identity, justice, power, and moral complexity.
Joseph Kent, founder and CEO of JEK Productions, has been a corporate attorney for 15 years, using the skills of legal research, writing, and analysis in a variety of cases. In 2018, he channeled those experiences into storytelling to have a broader impact.
A graduate of Morehouse College, Grambling State University, and Thurgood Marshall School of Law, he began by writing and producing one script, which evolved into a script house with a growing slate of culturally significant stories.
Todd Samovitz pivoted from the practice of law to become an accomplished writer in film, television and comics, as well as the author or ghost author of 25 books. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Southwestern University School of Law.
Some of his produced credits in features include Joe Baby, Sunken City, Wonderland, and he has
worked with studios and independent production companies such as Warner Bros., Lionsgate and Latigo Films
